Rejected Maize — Red Sea

Situation
Bulk maize rejected at the discharge port following quality concerns raised on arrival sampling. The vessel is waiting and berth pressure is building.

Objective

Alternative market and buyer identification, with vessel release as the governing constraint.

Assessment considerations

  • Sampling regime and laboratory findings, including moisture and mycotoxin position
  • Whether the cargo is segregable during discharge or wholly affected
  • Regulatory status of the commodity in the discharge jurisdiction and in candidate markets
  • Alternative discharge versus sale in place, measured against daily vessel cost

Abandoned Containers — Jebel Ali

Situation
Containers remain uncollected following consignee default. Storage and detention continue to accrue and equipment is tied up.

Objective

Authority assessment, cargo valuation, and remarketing or compliant disposal.

Assessment considerations

  • Whether title, lien or a local sale procedure gives authority to sell
  • Customs status of the goods and any required notices
  • Condition of the goods after prolonged storage
  • Cost of removal and de-stuffing against realistic realisable value

Water-Damaged Polymers — Rotterdam

Situation
The original buyer refuses the containerised cargo after water ingress is identified during unstuffing.

Objective

Secondary industrial market and recovery of value from unaffected and reprocessable material.

Assessment considerations

  • Extent of contamination and whether material is separable by package or by container
  • Suitability for regrind, recompounding or lower-grade industrial application
  • Storage cost while the recovery route is established
  • Documentation required by a secondary buyer to price the lot

Off-Spec Chemicals — Singapore

Bulk chemical product outside contractual specification
Situation
Product tests outside the contractual specification on arrival. The contractual buyer will not accept the parcel.

Objective

Alternative lawful industrial use or an alternative buyer able to work with the actual specification.

Assessment considerations

  • Which specification parameters are out, and by how much
  • Applications where the actual specification remains lawful and useful
  • Storage, tankage and handling constraints at the discharge location
  • Regulatory classification and any transport restrictions on movement
